GHANA INFO
Ghana’s population is estimated at 21million, roughly ten percent of whom live in and around the capital centers include Kumasi, Tamale, Tema, Takoradi and Cape Coast. More than 70 languages and major dialects are spoken worldwide, classified in four linguistic groups: Akan, Mole-Dagbani, Ewe and Ga. The most widespread Akan language is Twi which is spoken by roughly half the population, including the Asante (Ashanti) people of Kumasi and the coastal Fanti. Two-thirds of Ghanaians are Christians and another 15% are Islamic, the remainder adheres to traditional animist beliefs.

When to visit
Ghana can be visited at any time of the year, but the northern hemisphere winter- from October through to April is more convenient due to lower humidity levels and less rainfall. This is also best time for bird watching as migrants from Europe and Northern Asia.

Greetings
Greeting is an important social function that marks an open heart and mind. It also expresses one’s concern for the other.

Handshake
A handshake is a popular way of greeting in Ghana, especially among males. When you shake hands, please apply the same pressure as offered.

Tipped
Tipping is not standard practice at local hotels and restaurants, but it will always be appreciated. Guides and drives should always tipped.

Ghana is made up of Ten (10) well endowed regions which have beautiful sites to visit all year round.

GREATER ACCRA
Greater Accra is the capital of Ghana. A tour of the city takes you through the principal street of the capital and gives you a feeling of the typical Ghanaian way of life, the opportunity to shop and also visit the National Museum, James fort museum, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, W.E.Du Bois Center for Pan African Culture, the Art Centre, the Labadi Pleasure Beach and other places of interest.

CENTRAL REGION:
This is a region with a rich history of the presence of foreigners and their impact in Ghana. You will have the opportunity to visit the Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Castles, the Kakum National Park (famous for its canopy walkway) and the Brenu beach which has a peaceful migratory bird sanctuary.

WESTERN REGION:
A visit to Nzulezu (the village on stilts) will give you the opportunity to mix up with a group of locals who lives a normal life style on the river and farm on the land. Nkroful is another point of call and this is the birth place of one of African’s most illustrious sons and the first president of Ghana Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
For beach lovers you will have a good relaxation opportunity at the Busua Beach, (With golden sand beach ideal for relaxation and swimming).

BRONG AHAFO REGION:
Buabeng -Fiema Monkey Sanctuary will give you the opportunity to see various species of monkeys and these monkeys live freely with the locals in the community. Another interesting place of visit is the Kintampo Waterfalls. A collection of several waterfalls flowing and disappearing underground and resurfacing about 200 meters ahead.

VOLTA REGION:
This region has its own specialties to offer; The Tafi Atome Monkey sanctuary, Xavi bird sanctuary, Mountain Afadjato (Ghana’s highest mountain) ideal for mountain climbers The Tagbo and Wli water falls.

NORTHERN REGION:
The mole national park is the only place for a safari tour in Ghana. It gives you the opportunity to see a wide range of animals including elephants, lion’s antelopes and monkeys. The Larabanga Mosque and Salaga Slave markets are among the interesting places that you can visit.

UPPER EAST RGION:
The Paga Crocodile Pond, Nania Slave Camp,Tongo Rocks, Sirigu Pottery Naa Gbewa shrine are places of interest that can be visited in this region.

UPPER WEST REGION:
Is the home for the Gbelle Game Reserve (Sanctuary for many endangered species of wildlife like hippos waterbucks and elephants), Wechiau Hippo sanctuary and the Wa Na’s Palace.

ASHANTI REGION:
This is the garden city of Ghana and it has a lot of interesting places to visit amidst its rich cultural background. These includes: The Cultural Center, the Prempeh Museum, the craft villages for the making of the world’s famous Kente fabric, woodcarving and Adinkra clothes , the Okomfo Anokye sword site, the Manhyia Palace Museum and Obuasi Goldfields. Lake Bosomtwi and Bobri Forest butterfly Sanctuary are other places of interest.

EASTERN REGION:
The Aburi Botanical Gardens created as a sanatorium and leisure resort, The Akonedi Shrine at Larteh, the Boti seasonal falls and the Tafo Cocoa Research Institute and the Bunso Arboretum birds and butterfly sanctuary. The region is also popular for the art of beads making and with the largest man made lake the Volta Lake. It is also the home of the famous Akosombo dam and the Dodi Princess (a passenger cruise ship on the Volta Lake)
